Life after Cartagena...

Wednesday morning we received word from FANA that our case was cleared in the courts.  Yeah!  However, we were not due back to Bogota until Thursday night - dilemma?  They assured us that Friday was fine for our Sentencia, so we enjoyed the rest of our stay.  But, as soon as we landed - we didn't miss a beat!  We walked in the door at Betty's place & Niccy had a delicious meal waiting for us.  Then it was laundry & bottle washing, followed by crashing into bed.  Friday we were up early to meet Annette, with the Covellis, to head downtown for "Sentencia".  Once the papers were signed in the proper courts, we were back in the car to another office to obtain birth certificates.  Our gorgeous daughter is officially: Sophia Elizabeth Melone Eppolito (Spanish culture keeps the mothers maiden name).  It is a great feeling to have that part of the process finished.  We will take our time coming home though - there still is plenty to do here.  Please be patient - you will meet Sophia & see her big brother again very soon!

Friday afternoon was spent visiting the Hogar Margurite D'Youville.  This is the residence that FANA established to support and care for women seeking help during their pregnacies.  It was so special to visit this place as a family (with Luke), and visit with the women currently staying there.  For us, this day completed our circle of the adoption process.  We cannot explain the emotions of this day, except to speak of the pride we feel for these courageous women.  We are so glad we were able to spend the time there with Maria Lucia (Mercedes' eldest daughter), and witness the work she has accomplished.  She is the director of the programs, and has done a wonderful job seeing to every detail, no matter how small, to help the women, to give them respect, and plan for their futures.

Friday in Bogota

This is our last full day in Bogota.  I started off the morning with a "quick" stop at Norbeto's Salon for a facial.  For those of you who have been there, you know there is no such thing.  Once you are seated in the chair, you are a prisoner, and cannot leave until you are "complete".  I guess that means you are not released until you are "made to their satisfaction".  After 4 hours of 6 people fussing over me, I guess they were pleased with the transformation.  See for yourself!  Mom then went over to the Hogar with a tour with the Acebo family.  And, as you can imagine - she was just as pleased and impressed, and touched by the facility and it's residents.  We had our last delicios meal from Okenis & Niccy - tomorrow we'll be taking them out to eat.  After that, well I guess I'll have to remember where the kitchen is at home!
